Governor Bobby Jindal announces appointments to the Governor's DWI-Vehicular Homicide Task Force

Governor Bobby Jindal has announced appointments to the Governor’s DWI-Vehicular Homicide Task Force.

Jindal's task force addresses problems regarding the state’s high occurrence of drunk or drugged driving, the difficulty in proving identification of multiple DWI offenders, the refusal of drivers to submit to breath and/or field sobriety tests, the obtaining of evidence from drivers who cause alcohol involved in fatal or serious injury crashes, and the arrest and prosecution of drug-impaired drivers.

The task force is comprised of a maximum of nineteen appointments which include the following:

• The governor or the governor’s designee
• The attorney general or the attorney general’s designee
• The speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives, or the speaker’s designee
• The president of the Louisiana State Senate or the president’s designee
• A member of the Louisiana House of Representatives appointed by the speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives
• A member of the Louisiana State Senate appointed by the president of the Louisiana State Senate
• The commissioner of the Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control, Department of Revenue, or the commissioner’s designee
• The assistant secretary of the Department of Public Safety, Office of Motor Vehicles, or the assistant secretary’s designee
• The executive director of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, or the executive director’s designee
• The assistant secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Addictive Disorders, or the assistant secretary’s designee
• A representative of the Louisiana State Police
• A representative of the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab
• A representative of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association
• A representative of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association
• A representative of the Municipal Police Officers Association of Louisiana
• A representative of Mothers Against Drunk Driving
• A representative of the Louisiana Restaurant Association
• Two members will serve as at-large members

Jindal has appointed particular members already:

Michael Boudreaux, of Baton Rouge, is the President of Juban’s Restaurant. Boudreaux also began a joint venture in 2010 to open Beausoleil Restaurant. Boudreaux will be appointed to serve as a representative of the Louisiana Restaurant Association, as required by statute.

Adam Becnel, of Baton Rouge, is a manager at the State Police Crime Lab. Becnel will be appointed to serve as a representative of the State Police Crime Lab, as required by statute.

Norma Broussard, of Kenner, is the Chief of Parish Courts for Jefferson Parish district attorney’s office. Broussard will be reappointed to serve as a representative of the District Attorneys Association, as required by statute.

Valerie Cox, of Baton Rouge, is the Interim Director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Cox will be appointed to serve as a representative of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, as required by statute.

Mark Johnson, of Monroe, is a Sergeant with the Monroe Police Department. Sergeant Johnson will be reappointed to serve as a representative of the Municipal Police Officers Association of Louisiana, as required by statute.

Pat Minor, of Port Allen, is the Owner of Pat Minor Realty. Minor will be reappointed to serve as an at-large member, as required by statute.

Walter Smith, Jr., of Slaughter, is the Chief of Police for the Town of Slaughter. Chief Smith will be reappointed to serve as an at-large member, as required by statute.

Lt. Colonel Brian Wynne, of Baton Rouge, is the Deputy Superintendent of Patrol/Transportation and Environmental Safety for Louisiana State Police. Lt. Wynne will be reappointed to serve as a representative of the Louisiana State Police, as required by statute.
