Former Governor Edwin Edwards, a lifelong democrat, speaks out about the state of politics in Louisiana.

Edwards spoke at the Baton Rouge Press Club today. Edwards won 4 elections for governor as a democrat. Recently the Democratic Party in Louisiana has faced a string of party switchers to republican.

When asked how the Democratic Party can re-brand itself, Edwards first quipped, "change the name."

"All these former democrats haven't changed their attitude or philosophy,” Edwards said to NBC33 News. “You don't have this division where they're way to left or way to the right -- they're pretty much in the middle."

More from the former governor on NBC33 News at 6:30 p.m.
