Early voting is under way for next week's election. The Secretary of State's office says more than 23-thousand people statewide have already cast their ballot.

The average early voter turnout for an election is between ten to fifteen percent.

People we saw early voting today tell us it's more convenient than waiting until Election Day for a number of reasons.

“I’ve never did it,” Brenda Diagne, a Baton Rouge resident, said. “It was a great experience because it's a little different than the regular one because you don't go into a booth. I kind of like it in the open, but you also get the right to cast your vote for whoever you choose to vote for.”

“My passion is hunting and fishing and it makes it easy for me to come here and cast my vote,” Craig Landry, a Baton Rouge resident, said.

“I saw the early voting signs so I thought I would go ahead and vote, but when I read the number of things I had to choose from I decided I need to do my homework first,” Dee Jones, Baton Rouge resident, said.

Early voting continues through Saturday, Oct. 15. You can get it done at the registrar of voters in the parish you live in.
