Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Concussion bill
The Youth Concussion Act cleared the legislature today and is on Governor Jindal's desk.
If signed into law, coaches, volunteers, parents and players will all receive tips on how to spot potential brain injuries, and what to do before getting back in the game. The cost of the mail-outs are covered entirely by donations.
The most significant change under the legislation - coaches will have to bench a player if he or she suspects a concussion. The player then has to be cleared by a doctor before returning to the next game or practice.
