BATON ROUGE, La (NBC 33)- A proposed bill by Shreveport Senator Patrick Williams is expected to cause some lively debate once Louisiana's regular legislative session begins on April 25th.
He is proposing that the a monument of the ten commandments be placed outside of the Capitol building in downtown. Opinions on both sides of the issue are passionate.
Louisiana State University student Gabriela Zapata is outraged at the proposal. “Putting the ten commandments outside Capitol Hill is ridiculous”, says Zapata.
Sandra Carlson has the complete opposite opinion. She states, "I don’t see a problem with it. I think we’ve gotten away from some basic values and so I think it could be a help."
If the bill passes, private donors and not the government will pay for the monument.
