BAKER, LA — City of Baker Mayor Harold Rideau and Metro Councilwoman Chauna Banks-Daniel will be hosting a CATS-Baker Town Hall Meeting at the Baker Auditorium, 3325 Groom Road in Baker, on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. Panelists include State Representative Regina Barrow, Baker City Councilwoman Joyce Burges, Baker Chamber of Commerce President Duane Jordan, Metro Councilwoman Donna Collins-Lewis, CATS Chief Executive Officer Bob Mirabito, Together Baton Rouge Leader and Baker Resident Edgar Cage.
Banks-Daniel, who represents a large part of Baker, said she thinks it’s important that from the onset CATS officials know that Baker is committed to open dialogue as it related to public transportation expansion plans for their city. “We hope this town hall meeting sets the tone ongoing participation”, said Banks-Daniel.
In April 2012, the cities of Baker and Baton Rouge approved a 10.6-mill property tax to support, expand and improve the bus system.
Baker Mayor Harold Rideau said public transportation is important to the city’s economic development goals. “Baker residents have been long left out of the conversations about CATS' future. We need to know what's going on and have input that insure our residents have adequate routes and shelters,” Rideau said.
The Town Hall meeting will provide information regarding CATS public transportation in the City of Baker and will answer questions residents may have concerning future expansion plans.
Recently, the Metro Council has approved a measure to fill one of the two CATS Board vacancies with a Baker resident. Baker applicants interested in being appointed will be introduced at the meeting.
All Baker residents are invited to attend.
