Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Because of changes in Louisiana’s population, there will now be changes to the districts for the Board of Elementary and Secondary education.
Representative Mike Danahay’s House Bill 519 was approved by the House today. It creates to majority black districts out of the eight total districts.
The Baton Rouge area is also feeling the effects of these changes, “the Baton Rouge area also had a tremendous amount of increase in census number. There’s a 25% increase in these numbers. Therefore they had to basically shed some of the population in other districts” says Danahay..
The bill now moves to the Senate for debate.
