BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — With just days until the start of this year's legislative session lawmakers are wasting no time in filing hundreds of bills.
900 bills are already on the docket. Of those pre-filed bills, 234 are from senators and 666 of those are from house representatives.
The big item this year is the budget with Governor Jindal hoping to do away with personal and corporate income taxes and a bump in the state’s sales tax.
The budget is such a big topic this year each legislator is limited to filing only five bills that are not related to that topic.
Some of the pre-filed bills gaining early attention include a proposed a five cent tax on plastic bags, a bill requiring the LSU Board of Supervisors to offer football tickets to incoming freshmen, and a bill that allows schools to encourage parents to take parenting classes.
