Governor Bobby Jindal presented his plan on how to save the state $900 million.

His budget is $25.5 billion. It calls for the elimination of 6,400 state jobs.

The budget would also overhaul the state pension system and privatize some prisons and health centers. The state's transportation budget would take a huge hit. Jindal's proposal would slash it by more than $40 million dollars.

A recent study gave Louisiana a D grade.

"We really need to look at this big a cut in our transportation and see it it might be some other avenue we can might be able to use to get more funds to improve our roads and highways," says state representative Clif Richardson.

Jindal's proposed budget comes in around $61 million less than last year's.
