Losing it in LA

"Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels," said Henry. "I hate that phrase. Apparently the person who said that never tried crème brulee with fresh berries, or deep dish Chicago-style pizza, or Bananas Foster, or a cheeseburger, or homemade mac and cheese, or freshly baked cinnamon rolls, or well, you get the point.

That being said, there is nothing like hearing someone say, "How much weight have you lost," or "Wow! You look sexy!" I admit I only heard that second one in my head when I was looking in the mirror, but it was still nice to hear from the inside fat James that can't believe this is working so well. So, while I'm still not entirely sold on that ridiculously short-sighted, I have found that my tastes are changing as I am losing weight and improving my health. I can't begin to express how much gratitude I owe to Erik Duncan, Bally's Fitness, NBC33, and, Kasey, my wife. Thanks to everyone who is helping me "lose it"!"

"I can tell that my clothes are a little looser and I even had to buy some new pants, but after weighing in at the doctor's office this week I felt like I had failed because I haven't loss the weight I thought I did. My doctor informed then me that I have lost 20 pounds since December and that I shouldn't worry because she definitely could tell that I've lost inches as a result of losing fat and gaining muscle so that made me feel a little better. On top of that she and I both were excited to see that my blood pressure was down to normal (122 over 72) and that my fasting glucose levels have come down significantly which means I'm closer to no longer having to take medicine for pre-diabetes. We ended the appointment with her telling me how proud she was of me and that gave me even more motivation to keep working hard. The bottom line is that even if I don't win this competition (which I'm hoping I will), this has been the best life changing decision I have ever made and I plan to continue on this journey long after Losing It In Louisiana is over. Go team blue!"

" I saw a quote once that said "It never gets easier; you only get stronger." The only bad part of when the workouts begin to get "easier" is that it means it's time to increase the intensity. I am very lucky to have a trainer that pushes me when he sees that I need to increase the weight, sets, reps, etc."

"We are starting week 4 and I can tell a difference in my clothes. They fit better and it feels awesome! I've also noticed I have more energy to play with my 3 year-old and that's what really matters to me. My family is my strongest motivator, for sure, especially since I became a parent later in life. The number on the scale hasn't dropped a lot yet, but I feel much stronger and I'm standing straighter. Poor posture will mess you up, so I'm really focused on this right now. 2 weeks ago, my trainer accused me of enjoying the workout, and I told him 'enjoy' was a strong word. But now, I admit - I'm getting a little closer to enjoying it."

"This past week was awesome! I can feel my body getting stronger and stronger everyday. I find myself looking forward to my workouts with Lake and excited to see what we will do next. I am also getting used to eating healthier foods and not thinking so much about fast food."

"My trainer Carlos posed an question to me that got me thinking: " If your perfect wedding dress fits exactly right, and you look beautiful; does it matter what you weigh?" Ok, while I'll admit the incident was brought on because I watched to many episodes of "Say Yes to the Dress," then getting depressed, it was a valid point. While yes, I want to look great in my clothes. I am not shackled to a scale. If I work hard and lose weight and get healthier it doesn't matter if I lose 50 versus 47 pounds. My first two weeks weight flew off like crazy. Watching the scale not change for a week not gaining or losing weight can be very very frustrating. I refuse to go dress shopping for my wedding until I'm at least half way through my goal of losing 90 pounds. I have to work hard to understand that I put the weight on based only on my own decisions and bad eating habits. That means I have to take responsibility and push hard to take of those unwanted pounds."
