NBC33's Losing it in Louisiana contestant Kris Cusanza is the only lady left in the weight-loss competition. She's battled pound for pound trying to stay in the fight as the final three prepare to go head to head in one last challenge.

When Cusanza began the program she was 236 pounds and miserable.

Five months in and Cusanza is down over 40 pounds and feeling prouder than ever to hit the gym.

"These were my fat pants,” said Cusanza. “They kind of look like a tent on me now. I feel like the clothes I can wear now match how good i feel inside. "

However, as the competition goes on it's becoming harder and harder to lose the weight.

"I get so frustrated going to weigh in seeing the James drop 8 or more pounds a month when I'm struggling just to drop more than 2 pounds,” said Cusanza. “It doesn't help they can bench press a ton of weight. "

Bally Total Fitness trainer Carlos Rachel refuses to let Cusanza use her gender as an excuse not to fight to the finish.

"A female has about a tenth of the testosterone a male has,” said Rachel. “We need to make you strong enough to where events that you can compete at a level that will be just as well as they are or better than them."

Rachel changed up the red team’s entire workout. Now Cusanza’s day at the gym consists of weightlifting, step pushing, and you guessed it more burpies.

"I've started to finally see my muscle growth,” said Cusanza. “Check this out. I know it's kind of ridiculous, but it's the first time I've actually seen definition in my muscles."

Rachel says the only thing holding Cusanza back is my lack of sleep. But, with Cusanza’s busy schedule, she doubts that will change any time soon.

"Being able to go off of a couple hours of sleep still come and workout early in the morning or make it after you've been working long days,” said Rachel. “Not giving up. Wanting to ok if I can't make it what can I do at home. If I can't make it how can I make sure I’m eating what I need to eat. "

For now all Cusanza can do is maximize her workouts till the final fitness challenge and follow Rachel's plan. Rachel says in six more months, if Cusanza keeps up her new healthy lifestyle, she will be able to hit her goal weight and wear the wedding dress of her dreams.
