Contestants blog: week fifteen

I finally had the chance to catch an episode of ABC's Extreme Make Over the Weight Loss Edition and it really touched me in a positive way. After watching the show I realized that my transformation into a complete healthy mind, body and spirit will not happen over night. Seeing the person who was being featured go through a 365 day journey forced me to take a step back and really think about why I not only want to lose the weight, but why I've battled with my weight all these years. By the end of the episode I had the answer and it was time for me to work on getting emotionally healthy, which in return will help me remain physically healthy. I know some people wouldn't do this, but if me saying this can help someone else who is struggling with the same issues, then here it goes. I have accepted the fact that my battle with weight loss is not because I love to eat, but food was a means of comfort during many of my life's struggles and I can no longer ignore the fact that it's time to deal with all the hurt and pain from my past. In other words, I cannot continue to move forward on this journey in the right way if I don't acknowledge, accept, deal with and let go of my past. With that being said, my goal now is to let go, let God and move forward so that I can not only be healthy, but truly happy as well.

"Train the trainer" is coming up soon. After all the Erik has done to help me get where I am, it almost seems wrong to inflict any pain on him (almost being the key word). Appropriately, it will be a complete reversal of roles. He will be the one going through the agonizing workout, and I'll be the one giggling like a little girl watching him go through it. I'm honestly enjoying this too much.

I was worried that the workouts would start to get "boring". Joey does have me doing the same exercises, but he has a way of shuffling them around to where I don't know what to expect from day to day. It's far from boring; I look forward to my workouts each day.

This past week was a little tough. I worked a completely different schedule at work and it definitely made it a little harder to go to the gym. I did do a lot of bike riding with friends and cooked some healthy meals at home. Now that my schedule is back to normal, I look forward to getting back on my workout routine.

I went out of town this weekend and wasn't feeling too nervous about the eating part, until I was bored in the car. The ride was 10 hours one way, and I ended up stopping at Burger King. I ordered a veggie burger, and while I'm sure it wasn't organic or the healthiest veggie burger in the world, I figured it was better than most things there. I also ended up doing a yoga session with my friend who recently became certified in India and it was awesome! She taught me so many things and I was sweating the whole time, so if you think yoga is just stretching, you should check out a class sometime.

I went out to dinner with my mother this week. We went out to a place that was infamous for pizza. I was proud of myself because I ended up only getting a salad. I’m starting to get more comfortable going out with friends or family to dinner. When you have to order off a diet menu it can be intimidating. I feel like know what is ok to order and just how much working out I’ll have to do to burn off the calories.
