School Counselor Accused of Soliciting Sex from Homeless Man

By David D'Aquin

An East Baton Rouge elementary school counselor is charged with soliciting sex from a homeless man over the weekend.  38 year old Charles Johnson is a Guidance Counselor at Bernard Terrace Elementary and State Police say he picked up a homeless prostitute Saturday night.

Johnson and 48 year old Kenneth Peltier were stopped by a State Trooper at the corner of Neosho and Ted Dunham, which is very close to the Governor's Mansion and the State Capitol.  It's also an area that's notorious for drug activity and prostitution, so State Police patrol it often.

According to the arrest report, a trooper saw Johnson's black Toyota Avalon parked and got suspicious.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Markus Smith says, "The officer was able to determine he was there with the intention of soliciting sexual favors from a passenger he had picked up earlier in the evening from a local shelter."

Investigators determined that Peltier had been living at a local homeless shelter.  Both prostitution and solicitation of prostitution are considered misdemeanors, so neither man went to jail.

The EBR School System says Johnson is on paid leave from the school and is not allowed to return on campus.
