An 11 year old girl says she was sexually assaulted while heading to the bathroom between classes.
The girl's mother, who didn't want to be identified, says her daughter hasn't been the same since leaving school on Monday. "She's not herself. She goes home, covers herself up. She rarely wants to talk to anybody. She's normally playful with her brothers, [but] doesn't want to do that anymore."
The girl says while heading to the bathroom between classes at Port Allen Middle School, a male student confronted her, forced her pants down, then raped her.
David Corona, the school superintendent says the alleged attacker has an alibi. Corona says there's documentation the male student was with a teacher at the time the alleged attack took place.
The girl's mother is furious and has taken her daughter out of Port Allen Middle School, saying the school isn't doing enough to investigate the alleged attack. "I have no faith in the school anymore. It's just the whole way they handle everything. I'm not happy, I'm not pleased, I'm hurt."
Police Captain Eric Frank is investigating the allegation. He says in cases like this, both the victim and the accused need to be handled with care. "We know it's a juvenile involved in this. We are going to do investigation, we are going to do it tenderly."
After speaking to police Thursday, the girl's mother still isn't convinced justice will be found for her daughter. "I have no real faith in it. I can only pray and hope for the best."
The school system and police department are working together but they have also launched their own separate investigations.
The alleged victim's mother says she's planning on home-schooling her daughter, so she won't have to go to Port Allen Middle.
