Zachary, La (NBC33) — This weekend in Zachary, police say they're ready to collect any prescription medication you're not using.
Operation: Medicine Cabinet is set for Sunday. It's a chance for people who have leftover prescription medication to get rid of them.
If medicine stays in a house unattended, police say there's a better chance of the meds getting into the wrong hands. The medication is collected then incinerated.
"Studies show kids between the ages of 12 and 17 abuse these prescription drugs,” stated Zachary Police Chief David McDavid. “What we're trying to do is get these out of the medicine cabinets at home so it won’t be abused on the streets"
“Operation: Medicine Cabinet" will be held this Sunday at 4510 Main Street in Zachary from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Officers will also be giving out a free bowl of jambalaya to each person who drops off a prescription.
If you can't make the event, there's a prescription drop box at the Florida Street entrance of the Zachary Police Department.
