WEATHER-A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7am. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

LOCAL NEWS- An eight year old is dead after his parents allegedly beat and bit him. An oil spill near the Point Coupee/Concordia Parish line is said to be contained this morning. Murphy Painter, the former head of Louisiana's Alcohol and Tobacco Control Board, has plead 'not guilty' to Federal charges. In Tangipahoa Parish, a 17 year old is in jail after allegedly raping a 54 year old Roseland woman. A new 'strip mall' near Bass Pro in Denham Springs is expected to be open for business by Christmas.
