LOCAL NEWS-There was a fire in the 700 block of 36th street last night. Workers on I-12 were working all night to begin removing the S curve at O'Neal. In hearings at the Capitol yesterday, the Senate Finance Committee discussed cutting DOTD's budget by 40 million dollars. Also at the Capitol yesterday, state lawmakers and workers joined with teachers and AARP officials to say 'No' to Governor Jindal's Pension Reform Plan, House Bill 61. A bill to create a new school district, the Southeast Baton Rouge Community School System, passed with no opposition from the Senate Finance Committee despite pleas from EBR School District representatives to reject the bill.
