LOCAL NEWS-The Senate is set to vote on Governor Jindal's controversial education reform bills today. House Bill 974 rethinks the teacher tenure system while House Bill 976 starts a school voucher program. With Louisiana being 900 million dollars in the red, the Louisiana Department of Education is expected to slash its budget by 300 million dollars, thus cutting about 60 jobs. On April 21 voters head to the polls to vote on the new CATS tax proposal which will increase property taxes about 30 percent.
