BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Officials hope that students at Woodlawn Middle take away lessons from a fire drill they took part in this morning.
Smoke, fire trucks, ambulances and even student actors were all part of the elaborate drill.
The drill was part of training for the fire department, as well as a monthly fire drill for students.
School officials hope that the drill will help students realize the important role they can play in emergency situations.
“I hope they go home and they tell their parents what type of activity it was, what happened and be a little bit more aware of what they need to do if they are at home and there is a fire," stated principal Shelly Colvin.
These drills are usually done at the elementary schools; officials say middle and high school students don't tend to take it as seriously.
