BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: City-Parish officials are reopening the Woodland Ridge Boulevard bridge over Jones Creek at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.
The bridge, which provides primary access to Episcopal High School, was closed to traffic for repairs on Monday, Sept. 12, after bridge inspectors from the state Department of Transportation and Development found several critical deficiencies in the structure.
The repairs have been completed, but the bridge must remain subject to a maximum load of 5 tons until the city-parish performs the required post-repair inspection and structural rating calculation, and transmits that information to DOTD, according city-parish Public Works Chief Engineer Jim Ferguson.
The city-parish and DOTD had placed the 5-ton load restriction on the bridge immediately after the bridge inspectors initially discovered the problems on Aug. 31.
Ferguson pointed out that the repairs were completed in approximately one-third of the estimated time, due to an outstanding effort by the DPW bridge crew.
