Woman dies in fatal accident; infant passenger unharmed
KENTWOOD, LA — On Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:25 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 55 approximately two miles north of the LA 38 Kentwood exit in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash took the life of Brandy Green, 25, of McComb, MS.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Green was traveling north on Interstate 55 in her 2003 Nissan Sentra. For unknown reasons, the left side tires of the Sentra drifted into the grass median causing Green to overcorrect to the right forcing the vehicle to rotate clockwise as it crossed both northbound lanes of the interstate. Upon leaving the paved roadway, the Nissan Sentra entered the tree line on the east side of the interstate where it impacted a large tree with its left side.
Green sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. A one-year-old juvenile passenger in the Nissan Sentra received no injuries, however, was transported to Southwest Hospital in McComb, MS for precautionary measures.
Both occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash and impairment is not suspected with toxicology results pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving, never drive while fatigued, and avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road.
Louisiana State Police would like to remind the public to drive safely and exercise extra patience on the roads this holiday season. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
