BREC, the Greater Baton Rouge Community Tennis Association (GBRCTA), Louisiana Action for Healthy Kids, Environment and Health Council of Louisiana and East Baton Rouge Parish School Board hosted a 10 and Under Tennis Carnival on Aug. 24 at BREC’s Highland Road Community Park Tennis Center.

The free carnival allowed youth in the area to play tennis utilizing specialized equipment and shorter court dimensions tailored to their age and size. Ch ildren also enjoyed a tennis exhibition between BREC’s Liberty Lagoon Alligator, Lilly and Deuce, the BREC Tennis Bear. Attendees received healthy snacks and information about upcoming BREC junior programs.

A competition also took place among area elementary schools to see who would have the most students attend the carnival. Westdale Heights Academic Magnet School had the most students attending the event and received a tennis package donated by the GBRCTA. The package included junior racquets, foam tennis balls and a portable net for their school’s physical education program.
