DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (NBC33) — If you have outstanding warrants in Denham Springs, now is the time to take care of them.
It's part of the city's warrant amnesty program. The City Marshal says people have already come in to clear up more than 40 warrants. It's netted the city more than $50,000.
City Marshal Jerry Denton says the amnesty program is a way to let folks take care of their outstanding warrants without facing arrest.
"We wanted to do something to reach out to the community kind of in a way of giving back, too, but also allowing them just an opportunity to get their business straight," he said.
This is the first time the city has offered the warrant amnesty program, but Denton says it's been so successful so far, they're thinking of doing it all over again in the spring.
The amnesty program will end on Friday, Dec. 21.
