Voluntary evacuation for parts of St. Amant, Acy, Sorrento issued

ASCENSION PARISH, LA — The Ascension Parish Unified Command has issued a voluntary evacuation order for parts of St. Amant, Acy and Sorrento because of anticipated rising waters from the aftermath of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Isaac.
Officials said the voluntary evacuation area is south of La. 934 (Gold Place Road), east of La. 431 and La. 941 (Brittany Tower Road), north of I-10 to the I-10/U.S. Highway 61 crossover, continuing north to La. 934.
Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez said the voluntary evacuation is a precautionary measure.
A shelter has been activated for parish residents at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center’s Trade Mart building and will be operated by the Red Cross. Lamar-Dixon Expo Center is located at 9039 St. Landry Road in Gonzales.
