Baton Rouge, La — The USS KIDD will be hosting a ceremony observing the 71th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on Friday December 7.
Services will be held aboard the USS KIDD at 11:55 AM.
Approximately 2,400 Americans were killed on that tragic morning. Among those killed were forty-five Louisianans and Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, after whom the USS KIDD is named.
Immediately after Pearl Harbor Day ceremonies, the United States Coast Guard will hold a memorial service in the Louisiana Memorial Plaza to honor and remember the seventeen crewmen lost aboard the Coast Guard buoy tender USCGC WHITE ALDER (WLM-541).
On December 7, 1968, the WHITE ALDER sunk in the Mississippi River near White Castle, LA after a collision with the Taiwanese freighter M/V HELENA. Both ceremonies are free and open to the public.
