UPDATE: Lafayette crash sends four to the hospital, one man dies

Lafayette, La — UPDATE: On May 20, the passenger of the silver Ford Taurus died at a local hospital from injuries received in the crash. The victim is identified as Darryl W. Melancon, 56, of St. Martinville. The crash remains under investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: Lafayette Police responded to the 100 block of East Pont De Mouton Road at its intersection with I-49, regarding a major crash at around 11:00 a.m. on May 16.
A silver Ford Taurus was entering the westbound lane of Pont De Mouton from the northbound I-49 off ramp, when it was struck by a gold Mazda traveling west on Pont De Mouton Road.
The front passenger of the Ford was taken to the hospital in critical condition; the driver was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Both occupants of the Mazda were transported with minor to moderate injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
