UPDATE: Afternoon house fire determined to be arson

THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: Investigators with the Baton Rouge Fire Department believe the fire was intentionally set.

The total amount of damage done is estimated to be $40,000.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Baton Rouge Fire Department just cleared the scene of a house fire that happened on the 3000 block of Greenwell Street in Baton Rouge.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, which began shortly after 1:30 p.m. NBC33 was on the scene and spoke to the homeowner. We’re told the house was a second home that was furnished, but was used for guests.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. What’s certain is the home was severely destroyed before the flames were extinguished.
