PRAIRIEVILLE, LA — On Saturday, July 20, shortly after 4:30 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 621 west of US Hwy 61 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of Ryan A. Mallory, 26, of St. Gabriel.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Mallory was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer eastbound on LA 621. For unknown reasons, the Explorer ran off of the roadway to the right. Upon leaving the roadway, the vehicle entered a ditch and struck a culvert.
Mallory was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious injuries from the crash. He was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Gonzales where he later succumbed to his injuries. Driver impairment is unknown; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Mallory to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
