Unrestrained Opelousas man killed in 18 wheeler crash

Louisiana — A crash involving two vehicles killed a man from Opelousas in the early morning hours or April 2.
Troopers responded to the crash around 5:30 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 10 east of US Hwy 171. The crash involved an 18 wheeler, driven by Carl W. Rollins Jr., 43, of Leesville and a separate 18 wheeler, driven by Charles L. Theriot, 56, of Carencro.
Theriot was westbound on LA Hwy 10, cresting a hilltop, when Rollins entered the roadway from a private drive. This action resulted in the two vehicles colliding.
Rollins was not injured. He was charged with failure to yield.
Theriot was not wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. His only passenger, identified as Earl P. Prudhomme Jr., 50, was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
