LOUISIANA STATE POLICE — Saturday, shortly before 10:30 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 436 in Washington Parish. The crash took place approximately 6 miles north of the Franklinton city limits and took the life of the unrestrained driver Sidney Sumrall,54, of Bogalusa, LA.
Troopers' investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Sumrall was traveling west on LA 436 in a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted off the right side of the roadway. Upon leaving the paved road, Sumrall overcorrected to the left causing the Suburban to cross both lanes of LA 436 before running off road to the left side of the highway. As the Chevrolet left the roadway for a second time, it impacted an embankment and overturned ejecting Sumrall from the vehicle.
Sumrall was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner's Office. Alcohol use is not suspected at this time pending the results of a toxicology examination.
