ST. MARTIN PARISH, LA — Last night, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA Highway 93 near Bayou Fuselier Road which claimed the life of an Opelousas man.
According to investigating Troopers, on Monday, Nov. 19, at 5:50 p.m., Paul Young, 68, of Opelousas was driving a 1999 Ford truck north on LA Highway 93. A 2000 Mazda passenger car, driven by Beatrice Rabalais, 57, of Lake Arthur, was traveling south on LA Highway 93 approaching Young’s vehicle. For reasons still under investigation, Young crossed the center line and struck Rabalais’ vehicle head-on.
Young, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead by the St. Martin Parish Coroner. Rabalais was wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
This in the third fatal crash Troop I has investigated since Saturday. Lack of restraint use was a common factor in two of the crashes.
