In an effort to avoid critical summer blood shortages, United Blood Services is enticing donors to give blood around the clock tomorrow.

During summer months, blood supplies often hit critical lows, which is why the center is holding the fourth annual 'Boogie on the Bayou' blood drive.

It kicks off at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning and continues for 24 hours.

All those donating are eligible for several hourly and grand prize drawings.

Krista Baron with United Blood Services says it's important to donate, even if you think blood shortages will never affect you.

"You're not just giving for strangers… at some point in our lives we've all known somebody who needed blood - cancer patients need it, people that get in to accidents,” stated Baron. “So really, this is for your family, this is for your friends, this is for your neighbors and co-workers."

Baron says the center is expecting to see between 150 and 200 donors, but walk-ins are always welcome.

The United Blood Center is on One Calais in Baton Rouge.
