Mandeville Police Detectives have arrested two students after finding a loaded gun in a bathroom at Mandeville Junior High School

School officials were notified this morning by concerned students who heard rumors about a fellow student possibly having a loaded gun.

The gun was found in a boy’s restroom by school officials and the on-duty School Resource Officer.

There was no immediate danger to the students or faculty. However, the school was placed on lock down out of an abundance of caution while a search of the school was being conducted for additional weapons.

Twomale students, a 13-year-old seventh grader and a 14-year-old eighth grader, were charged with Possession of a Firearm on School Property.

After booking the juveniles were transported to the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center where they will await a pre-trial hearing in juvenile court.

This matter is obviously still under investigation and detectives are still working to establish motives and intentions.
