It’s almost King Cake time here in south Louisiana, but do you know anything about the history of the King Cake?

The cakes are traditionally made on January 6 in France to celebrate the Epiphany, a religious event which is also known as the ‘Twelfth Day of Christmas’.

French bakers place porcelain ornaments, known in the country as “beans”, in the cakes and bake them.

40 million of these “beans” are sold in the country every year, each representing the baby Jesus or other Christmas-related items.

The tradition in France is that the person who gets the slice with the bean in it will have a baby.
