The Big River Regional Stand Up Paddle and Kayak Race

BATON ROUGE, LA — Ever wanted to paddle or race down the biggest river in North America? Well now, here is your chance.
The Muddy Water Paddle Company and the Baton Rouge Paddle Club present The Big River Regional Stand Up Paddle Race on the Mississippi River.
This race will start on the river at Florida Blvd in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge and paddlers will race 13 miles down river to the L’auberge Casino. Spectators are welcome to come watch the start of the race and travel down the river road to set lookout points to cheer along the racers, ending at the back deck of L’auberge Casino to watch the finish.
The race will consist of Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP), Kayaks, Canoes, Outriggers and Surf Skis. The event will last approximately 2 to 4 hours and showcase SUP; a new and exciting sport that is the fastest growing water sport in the world. The race is also a World Paddle Association (WPA) regional finals race.
The Big River is dedicated to providing an exciting venue for paddle enthusiasts in the safest possible way. The organization has been working with the EBRSO and the Coast Guard for 5 months to create a plan that will not only provide a competitive sporting event, but also insure the safety of the contestants. A minimum of 4 support craft will be patrolling the race at all times, along with the presence of the EBRSO, Coast Guard, and Coast Guard Reserve.
Following the race an awards party will take place on the lawn at L’auberge Casino and Hotel. The contestants will be served Louisiana Cuisine and entertained by Cajun musicians. All finishers will receive finisher plaques and winners of the race will be given awards and prizes. The SUP race winners will also be awarded points to qualify for national level events leading to the World championships in the sport.
Check-in and Race Registration begins at 6:00 p.m.on August 30 at the Hilton of Baton Rouge. Online Registration costs prior to August 30 is $85.00 for each person and $100.00 on August 30. there will be no raceday registration.
