NEW ORLEANS, LA (WGNO) — This week, The Advocate newspapers are free as they encourage people to test them out and subscribe.
Starting next Monday, October 1, they begin home delivery. That's the same day the Times-Picayune scales back its service to three days a week.
The Baton Rouge-based paper now has temporary offices set up on St. Charles Avenue, and is working on establishing a permanent New Orleans bureau in the CBD. They've employed a staff of eight.
Their entire new staff are former Times-Picayune employees.
Following The Advocate's announcement to print a daily paper here, the owners of the Times-Picayune announced they'd open a Baton Rouge bureau and print a paper three days a week there.
The Advocate says they have their own identity, their own flair, and they welcome the competition, but at the end of the day they will be the only daily paper in both cities.
The New Orleans edition already has hundreds of subscribers.
