Texas man dies in travel trailer fire

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has released information relating to a fatal fire that occurred on May 30, 2012. The fire claimed the life of a Texas man.

The Lafitte-Barataria-Crown Point Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 11:13 p.m. to a report that a fifth wheel camper trailer, located on Jean Lafitte Boulevard was on fire. When firefighters arrived they discovered the entire camper to be engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and located the body of a 54 year old man who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Parish Coroner. His name is being held pending proper notification of the next of kin.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate this tragic fire. Deputies have determined that the occupant had been living in the camper for the past 6 months and had recently installed a portable generator for power. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and at this time no suspicious circumstances have been discovered. There were no operating smoke alarms at the time of the fire.
