Bayou Corne, La — Texas Brine, the company responsible for the sinkhole in Assumption Parish, could have to pay out thousands of dollars to misplaced victims.
The Commissioner of Conservation says the company could have to pay a fine of $5,000 a day if they don't retroactively compensate people impacted by the evacuations.
The company started paying evacuees about $900 a week. The second checks went out earlier this week.
A spokesman for Texas Brine says they have every intention of complying.
According to the company, the sinkhole's characteristics remain unchanged, and they are continuing work to relief the well.
