Teen dies after crashing ATV in Red River Parish

COUSHATTA, LA (NBC33) — A 16-year-old died early today after he crashed his ATV. Officials say he was not wearing a helmet.
The Louisiana State Police reports that crash happened at roughly 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31. The victim, Dakotta Huckabay of Coushatta, was driving on Doc Martin Road when he lost control and overturned the ATV.
Huckabay was pronounced dead at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner’s office.
Officials do not believe alcohol was a factor in this crash. However, a sample of his blood has been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The Louisiana State Police would like to encourage everyone that rides an ATV to always wear the proper safety equipment, travel at safe speeds and only ride on designated trails. It is dangerous and illegal to operate off road vehicles (i.e. three wheelers, four wheelers, and other all terrain vehicles) on any public roadways in this state.
