Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — A bill that would have gotten rid of the state's teacher evaluation system is on hold for now.
The House Education Committee was set to discuss the bill, but it was pulled from the agenda by its author.
The bill would have delayed laws already in motion for the 2012 session. Members of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers are pushing for the bill, but say some recent amendments changed the original meaning of the proposed law.
"I think we had strong support on the committee for that idea given what has been happening in the field,” stated Steve Monaghan with the LFT. “With teachers contacting their legislators, the fact that it slowed down for a heartbeat isn't necessarily a bad idea."
Other education reform bills from the 2012 session are already being examined by the State Supreme Court. No word on when a decision is expected.
