The Baton Rouge Airport received an early morning scare today when a device that looked like a bomb was found by the airport police.

It was inside of a car with a busted out front window in the airport's garage.

"It was a suspicious device that had the appearance of an old timey bomb with what appeared to be dynamite with a clock on top of it, with sticks painted to appear like dynamite," stated Jim Caldwell with the Baton Rouge Airport. "Obviously they wanted it to appear to be a bomb, but it was just wooden sticks, painted."

Immediately, airport police called in the bomb squad and shut down access to the airport’s garage; however, flights in and out of the airport stayed right on schedule.

"Once they found out what type of device it was, they did a preliminary look at it to see what the bomb radius would be, and if it would affect planes landing and taking off,” stated BRPD officer Jean McNeely. “(They) deemed that if it was an actual bomb - if it was to go off - what type of radius it would have been, and they felt like it would not affect the ongoing traffic here at the airport.”

Authorities are still looking for the person responsible for putting the fake bomb in the car.
