Juniors and Seniors at McKinley High got a lesson on safety today - don't text and drive.

The "Stay Alive, Don't Text and Drive" campaign brings awareness to the dangers of distractions behind the wheel.

Councilwoman C. Denise Marcelle and attorney Gordon McKernan have partnered with BRPD, the EBR Sheriff's Office and other state agencies to go to area schools to make sure the message gets heard.

"Older high school kids - they're always on their phones. It's the future,” stated Emily Massey, PR Director for Gordon McKernan. “So it's important, especially to Gordon McKernan that he gets the word out that texting and driving isn't acceptable and people really need to be careful."

Texting while driving can cost you anywhere from $175 to $500 for a repeat offense.
