Louisiana (NBC33) — A new system put in place by state police is expanding.
The Nixle Community Information and Alert System alerts people about emergency situations, such as evacuation orders and major road closures.
It's been in the Baton Rouge and other parts of the state for a few months. Now, the Louisiana State Police are expanding it to other parts of Louisiana.
Nixle is used by 4,300 safety agencies across the country.
State police here in Louisiana say the expansion means more people will be informed if and when the next big disaster strikes the state.
