As the temperatures drop tonight, homeless shelters across the area are getting ready for larger crowds than normal.

Michael Acaldo of St. Vincent de Paul said he's expecting to be over capacity. He says the shelter is making extra space for cots and extra beds.

Acaldo told NBC33, because of the weather, no one will be turned away.

“A lot of homeless, they have immune systems that are weak,” stated Acaldo. “They have health ailments that really can create some really life threatening events if they don't get out of the cold.”

St Vincent de Paul has put their freeze plan into place for tonight.

That means every space for a bed will be made available, and several emergency shelters will open their doors.
