BATON ROUGE, La.(NBC33) — A very rare bible is on display at the LSU Hill Memorial Library.
It's the St. John's Bible - a collaboration of artist Donald Jackson and St. John's Abbey in Minnesota.
It's completely hand written in calligraphy. Jackson and his artists used quills and paints hand-ground from precious minerals and stones.
This heritage edition is a museum quality reproduction of the original. It's worth $145,000 dollars.
“It's a 12 year journey for something bigger than yourself, and giving to the world something bigger than you sitting around taking up time," state spokesperson David Allaway.
The St. John’s Bible celebrates the tradition of medieval manuscripts while also using 21st century technology in the design process.
It's a joint project between St. John's in Minnesota and the Scriptorium in Wales, England.
