With this heat sticking, a local fire department is starting a drive to help the elderly. St. George Fire Protection District is collecting fans and air conditioners for those without them this summer.

Only new packages are being accepted right now. St. George is working with the Council on Aging to make this summer easier on seniors all across the parish.

“It’s gotten hot early, and there are people in this community who need that help,” stated Eldon Ledoux with St. George. “My mother is 86-years-old and lives alone. I would hate to think of here not having air conditioning or a fan in her home.”

If you can help, drop off new window units or boxed fans at any St. George Fire Station or call 225-454-6573.
