HOUMA, LA (NBC33) — A man was killed early this morning after he crashed his vehicle. Officials say the man was speeding.
The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash happened on LA 311 near the Westside Blvd. Extension Bridge in Houma. It happened on Friday, July 5 at roughly 2:30 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle, Rory Lyons, 41, lost control while attempting to go around a curve. His car crashed into the guardrail, became airborne, and landed in a large drainage canal.
When officials arrived on scene, they did not immediately find Lyons. He had been ejected from the car and was pulled out of the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Lyons was speeding excessively. They do not know if he was wearing a seatbelt, or if he was impaired. A sample of his blood has been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
