Speed a factor in early morning fatal crash in Zachary

Officials believe speed was a factor in a fatal crash that happened this morning in Zachary.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reports that the crash occurred at roughly 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13. It happened in the westbound lane of Olive Street.

Officials say the driver of the vehicle went off the road for unknown reasons and hit a utility pole. The vehicle flipped and landed in a grassy area.

The driver, Zachary Paul Mounce, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies believe speed was a factor in this crash and are awaiting the results of a routine toxicology test.
