At Southern University, students shook things up Latin-style!

It was the first annual Latin Carnival, and was put on by the Spanish Club.

The school’s Spanish Club was resurrected this year after it disappeared back in 2006.

Students say the events are a great way to break down barriers.

"No matter where you’re at on campus, you’re going to find somebody whose Hispanic or Latino,” stated member Kiera Delouch. “Half of the time, they don't even realize it; my cousin, President Danny Fernandez, is a pure-bread Dominican, but if you look at him you would swear he's an African-American.”

Next year, organizers are hoping to hold a huge Latin dance festival.
