Southern students to participate in MLK Day of Service

Dozens of Southern University students will be joining in a clean-up and repair effort on Monday, Jan. 21, to mark the 2013 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

The students will combine with the Baton Rouge Delta Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., to be part of volunteer work crews at six schools and three residences in the north Baton Rouge area.

The headquarters for the group will be Living Faith Christian Center, 6375 Winbourne Ave. There will be registration and breakfast for volunteers beginning at 6:30 a.m. and site work begins at 9:00 a.m.

The volunteers will be working at: Delmont Elementary, Howell Park, Claiborne and Winbourne elementary schools. They will also be at Istrouma High and Prescott Middle schools. Houses at 3618 Charles St., 3407 Wayne St. and 3376 Delaware St. are also on the work list.
